Right in time to the Frankfurt Book Fair hosting Georgia as its special guest and the upcoming elections in Georgia, it is an honour to welcome Mikheil Saakashvili, former president of Georgia, at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena.
The department of Political Science together with the FSR Political Science, JEF and the Students Association Foreign and Security Policy invite you to join a political lecture across the current development of Europe in the past years, the uprising trends of populism and nationalism in Europe, Georgia’s aspirations towards the „West“ and the informal influences of oligarchs in the modern Eastern-European countries. The lecture will be followed by an open question-and-answer session with our special guest.

Europe between Progress and Setbacks – Do Oligarchs belong in modern Era?
Passend zum Thema der Frankfurter Buchmesse 2018 “Georgia – Made by Characters“, und den anstehenden Präsidentschaftswahlen in Georgien, ist es uns eine Ehre Mikheil Saakashvili, ehemaliger Präsident Georgiens, an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena willkommen zu heißen. Das Institut und der FSR Politikwissenschaft, die JEF und die Hochschulgruppe Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik laden euch zu einem breitgefächerten Gastvortrag rund um die aktuellen Entwicklungen in Europa ein. Neben den zunehmenden populistischen und nationalistischen Tendenzen werden des Weiteren Georgiens Annäherungen zum „Westen“ thematisiert sowie die informelle Einflussnahme durch Oligarchen in den modernen osteuropäischen Staaten. Im Anschluss findet außerdem eine offene Frage- und Antwortrunde mit dem Gastredner statt.
